Car accidents may lead to delayed injuries

On Behalf of | Jan 16, 2022 | Personal Injury

A car crash could result in apparent and devastating injuries. A driver who suffers lacerations or a broken collarbone upon hitting a windshield suffers unmistakable harm. Not every Ohio auto accident leads to obvious injuries, as someone may experience life-threatening damage but doesn’t know it. Several hours or even days later, the full severity becomes clear.

Delayed injuries and car accidents

A car crash could leave someone feeling “okay,” but the person may wake up the following day unable to move. Such might be the case when an accident victim suffers a broken neck and doesn’t realize what took place.

Someone could go home unaware that they experienced a concussion or have internal bleeding. The symptoms may show up days later and, hopefully, the victim gets medical treatment in time.

An adrenaline rush might mask the seriousness of the injuries. Other times, an accident victim might be in denial and choose to ignore the symptoms. Such an attitude could lead to regrettable and tragic consequences.

The aftermath of a car crash

Not going directly to an emergency room for an immediate evaluation could be a mistake for car accident victims. Several injuries may go undetected, including herniated discs and spinal cord harm. An immediate evaluation may uncover severe injuries that might not display immediate symptoms.

Some injuries could be psychological, and a personal injury lawsuit may seek compensation for post-traumatic stress disorder. PTSD could linger and impact someone’s life for many years after a crash.

Accident victims might require compensation to cover medical bills and other expenses. The costs could be enormous, and a jury verdict or insurance settlement may cover those expenses.
