She listened to her heart

When she felt chest pain, she did what most people would do: she sought medical attention and advice from specialists. In February of 2010, she went to a cardiac care center and was examined by a doctor there. He gave her the bad news: your heart is weak, he said. But the good news was that he would be able to help her.

A few days ago, a jury in a medical malpractice trial determined that the internal cardiac defibrillator the doctor implanted in her wasn't needed. She is to receive $1.75 million in compensatory damages.

A couple of other things to know about this case: according to evidence presented in the four-day trial, the woman did not have any heart disease when the internal cardiac defibrillator was inserted. And now that is in place and has been for several years, it cannot safely be removed.

A cardiologist testified that any attempt to remove the device could result in the woman's death.

While she is far from us in Springboro, her story might well resonate with readers who have had doctors determined to find medical problems where they were none, and then were determined to "fix" the "problems" with expensive, unneeded procedures.

The Arkansas jury deliberated just three hours before announcing its decision.

As you can tell from the date the woman walked in to see the doctor, it took her several years to get justice. People who have been injured by a negligent physician must listen to their hearts and decide if the pursuit of justice and needed, deserved compensation is worth it. An experienced Ohio medical malpractice attorney can discuss the options available to you in your situation and help you hold those responsible for your injuries accountable.
