Rebel yell of pain

While the college football title defense is underway just an hour northeast of Springboro, the athletic department at The Ohio State University has to plan ahead. Because the school's football schedule is worked on years in advance, we know that in two years, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas will walk into The Horseshoe to take on the Buckeyes.

Former Rebel football player Beau Orth dreamed of playing big games on big stages, such as the green stage at Ohio Stadium. But he will never get that chance because of a botched surgery on his back. The former linebacker recently prevailed in a medical malpractice lawsuit against the surgeon.

In 2009, when Orth was a sophomore, he began having pain in his lower back. An MRI revealed that the disc in the L5-S1 segment was herniated.

Unfortunately, when a surgeon performed an operation to alleviate Orth's pain, he operated on disc L4-L5 rather than the one causing the problems. Orth said that after the surgery, his pain became more intense, a news report stated.

Another surgeon examined Orth's back and determined that the wrong disc had been operated on. The new doctor said more surgery was called for, this time to address the damage done to L4-L5 and to fix the unaddressed problem with L5-S1.

A jury recently agreed with Orth and his medical malpractice attorney, awarding the former player $3.8 million in damages and $486,000 for past and future medical expenses.

Those who suffer at the hands of a negligent doctor can pursue legal claims for full compensation with the help of a Warren County lawyer who understands this complex area of Ohio law.
